The Shenandoah beckons!

General Phil Sheridan had some time up and down the Shenandoah Valley so we think that may be a good direction to head when spring arrives.  We know that there are a number of routes that cut across the Continental Divide from Virginia to West Virginia so we need to re-visit those spots that were missed in 2011.

There is some local historical ties to that area as well.  The 34th Massachusetts Infantry fought in the battle of New Market (Virginia) in the Civil War.  They were a unit that had members from the Brookfields, Barre, Petersham and the surrounding area.  And Diona's Great-great grandfather was a Sergent in the 13th Maine Regiment that saw action in Martinsburg, WV, just outside of Harper's Ferry.

So those may be points of interest when we are in the area. 

Preliminary thoughts are to have a "base" camp and do day rides rather than moving from motel to motel... friend to friend, or fire station to fire station as we did last year.

Hopefully we will find a bit better road condition than Sheridan's troops did!

2011 Draws to a close

As 2011 draws to a close we look back at a lot of fun miles with friends.  When we finished our ride in April is was cut short because of forecasted inclement weather.

We knew that at some point we needed to go back for more riding in West Virginia and to get some routes up and over the Continental Divide.

So now that the colder temperatures are here in New England it's time to start thinking about where we shall go in the spring!
